21st CCLC Program Update

May 15, 2017

Imagine North Lauderale’s scholars have conquered the 2017 Florida Standards Assessment (FSA)! All third, fourth, and fifth graders persevered through weeks of assessments and successfully put forth maximum effort to demonstrate their reading, writing, math, and/or science knowledge. Our 21 st CCLC students spent 12-15 extra hours per week “acquiring knowledge for college”, and we are confident their additional time spent engaged in learning will translate to above-average learning gains this year! Now that the FSA has concluded, our scholars have shifted their focus during tutoring time towards
preparing for other end-of- year assessments – STAR, FAIR, DRA,   i-Ready, Journeys, and Go Math!, just to name a few. This is the time of year for students to shine by demonstrating their academic growth. We are especially proud of our students who take advantage of regular tutoring opportunities – their effort is sure to lead to academic gains!

After homework help and tutoring time each afternoon, students engage in a Project Based Learning (PBL) Unit. During PBL time, students are immersed in hands-on learning on a high-interest topic, such as their personal college and career plan and critical components of a healthy diet and lifestyle. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, students dive into their data and become engaged in motivating, real-world math problems. Students graph their achievement and attendance data and compare their
achievement with district grade-level expectations and district averages. Using their data, students identify their areas of strength and establish SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely) goals to target areas of improvement.

On Thursdays and Fridays, students learn the science and math needed to get fit! Students research to deepen their understanding of the composition of healthy meals and how to correctly interpret nutrition labels. Students have been shocked to discover how much sugar is hidden in drinks, what a healthy plate actually looks like, and unhealthy ingredients hidden within some of our favorite snacks. Our 21 st CCLC students have definitely improved their knowledge of health and nutrition and are better equipped to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Throughout the third quarter, The Imagine More Success – Let’s Move! clubs were focused on i-Ready or Waggle computer-based interventions and/or teacher-led small group instruction in reading and math. Regular clubs, including cheerleading, basketball, track, Spanish, and team sports will resume in May. We are excited to showcase club performances at our May 31 st 21 st CCLC Family Learning Nigh t. May 6, 2017 marks the final day of Imagine More Success – Let’s Move! Saturday school. Participating students spent 18 Saturdays together reviewing the most rigorous content covered during the traditional
school day and engaging in writing and science project-based learning activities. Students who showed outstanding attendance, missing less than two days of Saturday school, celebrated their accomplishmentat Galaxy Skateway. Our 21 st CCLC scholars are dedicated learners, and we thank parents for encouraging their children to continue learning, even on Saturdays!

21 st CCLC Summer Programming
The Imagine More Success – Let’s Move! Summer Learning Program, offered free of cost to our scholars, begins on June 12, 2017. Participating students will report to school from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and will have breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack provided for them.
